The Sea is Uncalm Tonight

The Springtide in Vermont, Western Cape on September 17, 2023

The sea is uncalm tonight
It mouths a fury of foam
over-laying water, rocks, coastline.
everything melts into the void.

The foam is energy, forming, twisting, spiralling, rushing, groaning, crashing heaving, rolling upon itself and over itself, then raging, charging in a riotous howl, chopping and changing, restless streams of itself gather to a monstrous wave of whiteness in a violent rush of motion to cake and crash all in its way, roiling the stones in its suction so that they cry out against the heave of its inbreathing, leaving a landscape and seascape swirling in glistening snow.

A thing of beauty is a joy for ever:
Its loveliness increases; it will never
Pass into nothingness; but still will keep
A bower quiet for us, and a sleep
Full of sweet dreams, and health, and quiet breathing.
John Keats

Full many a gem of purest ray serene
The dark unfathom’d caves of ocean bear:
Full many a flower is born to blush unseen,
And waste its sweetness on the desert air.

Elegy written in a Country Churchyard by Thomas Gray
