The breeze at dawn has something to tell you

Don’t go back to sleep.

You must ask for what you want

Don’t go back to sleep

People are going back and forth across the door sill where the two worlds meet

Don’t go back to sleep

The door is wide and open

Don’t go back to sleep

Today, like every other day you wake up empty

and frightened. Don’t open the door to the study

And begin reading. Take down a musical instrument.

Let the beauty we love be what we do.

There are hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the ground

The breeze at dawn has something to tell you

Don’t go back to sleep.

When I heard my first love story

I started looking for you

Not realising how blind I was

Lovers don’t finally meet

They’re in each other all along

The breeze at dawn has something to tell you

Don’t go back to sleep.

I would love to kiss you

The price of kissing you is your life

Now my loving is running toward my life shouting

What a bargain, let’s buy it.

The breeze at dawn has something to tell you

Don’t go back to sleep.

The way of Love is not a subtle argument

The door there is devastation

Birds make great sky-circles of their freedom

How do they learn it?

They fall and falling

they’re given wings

The breeze at dawn has something to tell you

Don’t go back to sleep.

A secret turning in us

makes the universe turn.

Head unaware of feet

and feet head. Neither cares

They keep turning

The breeze at dawn has something to tell you

Don’t go back to sleep.

I am so small I can barely be seen

How can this great love be in me?

Look at your eyes,

They are so small

Yet they see enormous things.

The breeze at dawn has something to tell you

Don’t go back to sleep.

Keep walking though there’s no place to get to.

Don’t try to see through the distances.

That’s not for human beings. Move within,

But don’t move the way fear makes you move.

The breeze at dawn has something to tell you

Don’t go back to sleep.

No better love than love with no object,

no more satisfying work than work with no purpose.

The breeze at dawn has something to tell you

Don’t go back to sleep.

Dance when you’re broken open.

Dance, if you’ve torn the bandage off.

Dance in the middle of fighting.

Dance in your blood.

Dance when you’re perfectly free

The breeze at dawn has something to tell you

Don’t go back to sleep.

Stop the words now

Open the window to the centre of your chest

And let the spirit fly in and out

The breeze at dawn has something to tell you

Don’t go back to sleep.
